Huh? What? A Wet Room? We figured you might be wondering what a wet room is exactly. While some of our readers may know, you’d be surprised at how many people aren’t aware of this pretty amazing bathroom design concept. And, don’t let the name fool you. A wet room can turn your dry, dull bathroom into a luxurious oasis. Here we go…
Simply put, a wet room is a bathroom or shower room that has been completely tanked (otherwise known as waterproofed) and has a shower area that is the same level as the rest of the floor. When designed correctly, the water will drain away from the walls towards a drain that is flush with the floor, which is usually located in the shower area. While the shower is typically curb-less, some folks prefer to install a glass enclosure to reduce water splashing outside of the shower area.
There are many benefits of incorporating a wet room into your remodel. Not only are they gorgeous, stylish and fit into the open concept popular nowadays, but there are many different design elements that can be built into a wet room, like a bathtub, whirlpool or spa tub. (See pictures below.) Wet rooms are a great way to utilize space effectively and can be installed in any level of the home or integrated in your current bathroom. Wet rooms are a more hygienic option due to greater area open to airflow. One of the biggest benefits is peace of mind as wet rooms are 100% waterproofed.
Wet rooms are particularly attractive to those with mobility issues as they can move effortlessly throughout the space allowing them to fully enjoy their surroundings without limitation. Popular among our aging-in-place clients, wet rooms are becoming increasingly attractive to all buyers. Who doesn’t like a big shower?

Project 19 - 26
We love this bathroom remodel in Littleton, Colorado! This is our 4th project with this homeowner and a great example of incorporating a jetted bathtub within a wet room design. This may be the guest bathroom in the hallway, but we understand that the wife now prefers it over the master bathroom. Must be the wet room!
Project 18 - 21
This bathroom had already been updated once before from the 1960’s. But the homeowners were looking to do something more modern. We remodel this hallway guest bathroom by adding a wet room to include a new bathtub and built-in foldable seat within the shower space. We understand they love washing their big dog in this new space so he can shake away after his bath while keeping the rest of the bathroom dry.
