After our recent blanket of snow, I think we can all agree that autumn in Colorado has happened upon us much quicker this year than in previous years. As such, we thought this would be a perfect time to share some of our favorite things to do in Colorado this time of the year! Kelly Berlin, our Vice President, has put together three of her absolute favorite Colorado Fall Road Trips worth taking this season.

  1. Kelly’s Favorite Mountain Pass Loop - Click for Google Map Route

    • First stop - Kenosha Pass

      • Be prepared to whip out your camera to capture those golden aspen trees!

    • Second stop - Cottonwood Pass

      • You’ll see lots of colorful aspen groves as you head over the Continental Divide, which sits at 12,126 feet. Once at the top, take in the 360 degree views.

    • Third stop - Kebler Pass

      • This will arguably be the best spot to view the fall aspens. You’ll also pass through Gunnison National Forest. If you have a moment stop by Three Lakes Trail for a 3.4 mile hike.

    • Fourth stop - McClure Pass

      • Panoramic views that are out of this world! Stop at the crest of McClure Pass to enjoy a 4.5 mile hike along the Ragged Mountain Road.

    • Fifth stop - Glenwood Springs

      • You’re there, so why not take a moment to soak up the soothing minerals from the Glenwood Hot Springs!

    • Sixth stop - Vail Pass

      • Vail is an amazing spot to stop at on your return to normal life. Stop by the village for an afternoon lunch and wine or simply stroll through the shops supporting the many local businesses.

  1. The San Juan Loop via Blue Mesa - Click for Google Map Route

    • This is our southwest Colorado road trip loop which includes amazing stops like Durango, Ouray, and Silverton. The San Juan mountains don’t disappoint... It is grandeur everywhere! That is why this area is known to be the “Swiss Alps of America”. If you are feeling really adventurous check out the Cascade Canyon Express to experience the world famous Durango and Silverton canyon views.

  1. The West Elk Loop

    • This loop connects Carbondale, Gunnison and Hotchkiss and is known for its wilderness views. This route starts in Carbondale and ends in Sapinero and takes about 10 hours to complete. Take a minute to visit the town of Crested Butte with a stop in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. You can also enjoy salmon and trout fishing activities on the giant Blue Mesa Reservoir. We hope you enjoy getting “loopy” on these scenic drives! And, let’s not forget about all of the other amazing fall experiences Colorado has to offer. Take a look below to see some other great options to enjoy Colorado this autumn.
