Remodeling Your Home: Make Peace, Not War

Not many people know that there is an International Peace Month, let alone that it falls in August. With peace in mind, meditate on increasing the peace in some of our favorite places in our home. Everybody's favorite sanctuary looks a little different depending on their needs. To get your “Ohmmm” on, a little peace and quiet is best reached in your bedroom with some alone time. You might spend time in your bathroom, especially if you enjoy self-care. Maybe your basement gives you the space to Zen-out. We want to talk about the potential for all three spaces.

Let’s begin with where we start our days: the bedroom. Remodeling the bedroom to make it a more peaceful place should involve three things: lighting, temperature and noise. Sleep-friendly lighting is critical in the bedroom. Make sure your bed does not face a window from the direction of the sunrise. Sunrises are peaceful, but that’s the kind of peace you would like to choose rather than being blinded as a wake-up call. Next comes temperature... it has got to be cool, but not freezing. Warm but not sweaty. Having vents in areas that complement the flow of your ceiling fan is critical to a good night’s sleep. Finally, there is the volume in your bedroom to be considered. An inexpensive solution like a large rug or tapestries to absorb any incoming sound can help. Some may do well with a white noise machine. You could also look into installing an additional wall for acoustics, and that’s an area we could help with!

Bathrooms have all the makings of peaceful rooms. Warm baths, fluffy towels, aromatherapy and, ahhhhh! It can be just what the doctor ordered. Remodeling bathrooms can involve plumbing, tub installation and ventilation. This is one of those remodels best left to the pros, a.k.a. “the Maverick team”. To maximize your inner peace, ask yourself what your bathroom would need. Is a bidet in order? Maybe a little 80’s vibe via a jacuzzi tub. The average Colorado bathroom remodel offers a return on investment rate of 50.7 - 57.6%. A little money back is always good for peace of mind.

A remodeled basement can be whatever you want it to be. Do you want a gym? You got it. A home office? Sure. Thinking about renting out some space? Add a kitchenette, and boom--  passive income. Regardless of what you want, your return on investment on a basement remodel is a whopping 70%. Uhm, yes, please! The tranquility of mind is essential for inner peace, and creating a space that is focused on exactly that is a great place to start.
