Bring The Outdoors Inside

Bring Outdoor Design Elements Indoors

Ask anyone in Colorado why they love living here, and we guarantee “the great outdoors” will be one of their top replies. And we couldn’t agree more!

That’s why we don’t let our love for CO’s natural beauty stop at our front door. Spending so much time in our homes these past few years has forced us to look at our living space differently. It’s not uncommon to get tired of what you see!

We say throw those doors open, let the sunlight, scent of pine, and mountain air in, and incorporate our love for the outdoors inside.

Show off your love for the outdoors and bring Colorado’s natural beauty into every room with these 8 tips:

  • GO AU NATURALE

    • Add wicker, rattan, hemp, or jute rugs, furniture, or other natural accents for an organic touch.

    • For greater mountain effect, incorporate elements like stone, slate, granite, and wood into your floors, backsplash, fireplace, etc., with a remodel.

  • STOP AND SMELL THE…PINES

    • Get your home in tune with nature and entice your senses with outdoor smells – woodsy incense, pine-scented pinecones, rain-scented candles, floral potpourri, etc.

  • GET YOUR GREEN-THUMB ON

    • Nothing will make nature-loving hearts happier than a house full of greenery. Fill your space with eye-catching, easy-to-care-for plants that link your indoor space with your outdoors. Consider perennials such as daylilies, irises, and peonies so you can enjoy them year-round.

  • ADD LOCAL COLOR

    • It almost goes without saying – but we are going to anyway – a brilliant way to bring the outdoors inside is with color! Choose colors that pay homage to the beautiful Colorado landscape, like lavender skies, white snow, pine green, and shades of golden autumn leaves of Aspen trees.

    • Our Vice-President, Kelly Berlin, always says, “Nature will give you the color palette.” So be mused by an Iris with purple, yellow, and white or the mountain forest with pine green, brown bark, and river stones. The options are endless!

    • Check out our blog, How to Choose the Right Color Palette for Your Home, for a deep dive.

  • CHECK YOUR LIGHTING

    • Just letting in some natural light allows the outdoors to pour into your space. Plus, it’s FREE! A remodel could be just the thing if your home design does not allow for enough natural light. Could installing a new window benefit your layout? Is there a wall you can remove to open up your space?

  • CURATE YOUR VIEWS

    • Baby, it’s cold outside. We may be stuck indoors for the majority of winter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy beautiful views. Trim overgrown bushes and move bins out of sight so you can enjoy your gorgeous view from the inside.

    • Consider year-round landscaping that you see from your windows. Be sure to have ornamental grasses and evergreens in the mix to add for winter interest… beautiful when they are laced with snow.

For more ideas on curating your views, attend the annual Colorado Garden & Home Show at the Colorado Convention Center each February. We will be there in booth #2114 – come say hi!. Visit our website homepage below to access a 2-for-1 coupon. Simply wait for the pop-up and download the pdf!

  • LIVE WELL

    • Our remodel decisions reflect both our aesthetics and how we want to live. Designing for wellness at home means creating spaces that are good for physical and mental health. Incorporate holistic elements inspired by nature to improve your quality of life! These can include: monitoring air quality; installing water filters; using healthy, sustainable materials; creating a place for relaxation; etc. Don’t forget, there’s no air like fresh air! Let the outdoors in by installing new screens in your windows.

  • ACT SUSTAINABLY

    • These days, bedding, carpets, cleaning products, and even paint all come in eco-friendly varieties. Opt for VOC-free paint, recycled materials, and reusable products. You’ll feel closer to nature, and Mother Nature will thank you, too!

And that’s just the tip of the… Rockies! …you see what we did there? One of the most incredible benefits of living in our beautiful state is the inspiration you can draw from outdoor adventures. Don’t let the cold weather get you down! Stay inspired through the winter by sprucing up your home with elements inspired by your favorite natural wonders. There are as many brilliant ways to incorporate nature into your home design.
