Does Your Bathroom Make You "Psycho"?

Let’s face it... if a bathroom is remodeled incorrectly, many scary problems can arise. And by scary, we mean “Stranger Things” upside down scary. We’ve highlighted some of the most common mistakes made during bathroom remodels done by either DIY’er or by an inexperienced contractor.

First and foremost, poor plumbing can be a real nightmare. Not only is it an annoyance to have constant changing water pressure or loud rattling pipes behind your wall, it can also lead to some very major issues. Leaking pipes; showers without proper waterproofing; missing valves, trim and Schluter strips; and more can all lead to mold. It’s also important to consider proper draining. One example is when you run your shower, the water should run directly towards the drain and should never pool; otherwise, it could mean your shower is not properly pitched. Poor draining can be caused by many things like clogged pipes or can also be a major issue like old, crumbling piping found in older homes. Being sure plumbing work is done by a state licensed plumber will ensure you are getting it done correctly the first time!

No one likes mold. Eeeeew! Mold can have a major negative impact on your overall health and can lead to coughing, wheezing and more. Due to the damp environment of a bathroom, the rate of mold growth increases significantly. If you find mold, it’s important to get it removed by a professional mold remediation company. This is why it’s important to remodel your bathroom correctly. Water can be tricky… it likes to travel to the path of least resistance. So a leak may start in one place of your home, but travel to another part of your home causing damage in a totally unsuspecting place. Eeeeek! Therefore, proper sealing and waterproofing in your bathroom (and kitchen) is one of many steps to help prevent the scary mold from forming.

Another terrifying mistake in bathroom remodeling is poor bathroom ventilation. That’s right! Every bathroom in your home needs to have an exhaust fan that works properly. The purpose of this fan is to not only remove that “deadly gas” from last night’s spicy dinner (oh, my!), but to remove the humidity buildup that comes from daily use, especially when showering. If your mirror remains foggy and the wall collects condensation for too long, you have poor ventilation. Colorado may be an arid climate, but always be sure to run your bathroom fan when showering!

Many fearful issues can arise from a poorly remodeled bathroom. Trusting in your contractor to give you a bathroom that is remodeled correctly should be a non-negotiable. We pride ourselves on giving the best experience to our customers. And with experience, comes the dedication to remodeling right the first time.
