Featured Remodel #2112 by Project Manager, Paul Moore

A Journey in Time:  Project #2112

Not all home construction projects are created equally! Some are quick and easy, like a kitchen backsplash or wallpaper removal; others, not so much. Recently, we completed a home remodeling project, #2112, which happens to fall in the latter category. This home remodel consisted of a kitchen remodel, a fireplace facelift, family and dining room updates, a master bathroom remodel, an additional window installation, and a laundry room addition in the unfinished basement. Whew! Quite the remodel - Challenge accepted! Read below about the journey we took to help these homeowners realize their exact vision.

The living room alone required a considerable amount of demolition. Its original footprint had accent pillars and horizontal beams that were dated and overbearing… pun intended! Our customer wanted them removed for a more open feel.

One challenge was that the customer wanted to extend the existing pre-finished hardwood floor throughout the main level. Once we found the original floor supplier and had the material delivered, the worst happened — it was not a perfect match. The new base was slightly wider than the original, and we could not blend the two. This was a problem.

After discussing our options with the customer, we adapted our plan to replace the entire main level of their home with a totally different hardwood floor. This decision slowed the project down a bit as we waited for the other flooring to be delivered from out-of-state as well as remove the existing tile. However, in the end, the customers were happy with their new flooring without the worry of mismatching. It turned out more gorgeous than originally planned!

“Floor-gate” was not the last challenge we faced during this remodel. There were multiple change requests as the project went along. The installation of new doors throughout the main level of the house and pantry shelving were added to the scope of work.

The homeowner is a renowned chef and very invested in his new kitchen. He had very particular requests for how his kitchen should look and function. Fortunately, at Maverick Home Remodeling, we are committed to our customers loving their home. And, kudos to our cabinet company who did an outstanding job supplying cabinets to fit his vision!

Despite a long to-do list and unexpected challenges, at the end of the project, our clients were delighted with the results!
