Popular Bathroom Trends Of 2023 (So Far)

To celebrate National Home Improvement Month, we’re giving you VIP access to the hottest remodeling trends we’ve seen in 2023 (so far). What better room to start with than the one we use daily but is often neglected when it comes to design? We’re talking, of course, about the bathroom!

Ever since the onset of COVID-19, cultivating a zen home has increasingly become a top priority. This trend continues in 2023, and bathroom design is all about personalization. This means a steam shower for some, a soaking tub for others, or both!

From modern color schemes to bold fixtures and accessories, there are countless ways to ensure your bathroom is just as thought-out and stylish as the rest of our home.

Here's our list of the best bathroom trends of 2023. Use them to take yours from overlooked to outstanding!

The Year of Fabulous Walk-in Showers

Walk-in showers have become increasingly popular, especially as space-saving solutions. If you don’t think luxury and showers go together, think again! Here are just a few of the options available when it comes to pampering yourself:

  • Waterfall Showers - Waterfall showers have modern, streamlined appearances, featuring a wide and flat head that provides a softer, wider water stream (like a waterfall!)

  • Steam Showers - Steam showers are an increasingly popular solution, especially for those with sinus issues or allergies. If you go this route, consider installing a bench or other seating to encourage relaxation.

  • Full Body (multi-jet) Shower - Why settle for a single shower head when you can have multiple mounted on the walls, engulfing you in warm water? Here at Maverick, we call these “carwash showers.” This option is especially good if you’re going for the full home spa effect (featured next on our list under “SPA-tacular Amenities”). An added bonus for full-body showers is that they may actually conserve water because the multiple jets deliver streams exactly where they’re needed, saving the time it takes to drip down.

  • Smart Shower - Last but not least, a smart shower! A perfect shower is an art form - setting your preferred water temperature, flow rate, and shower duration. What if you had a virtual assistant to do it for you?? Smart showers come in many styles, including rainfall or waterfall shower heads - so you can get the best of both worlds! They may also feature water conservation options. Take a look at these examples to see which is right for you! Moen TS3302TB, Kohler Prompt Digital Shower Interface, or GROHE Rainshower SmartConnect Showerhead.

SPA-Tacular Amenities

Why go for an expensive spa day when you can invest in the same amenities for everyday use at home? If you don’t want to stop at adding a walk-in shower, there are more changes you can make to elevate your bathroom from blah to spa, like heated floors or natural stone counters, to name a few.

The Most Popular Paint Colors

The simplest, truly transformative way to revamp the look of your space is with a color change. Get inspired by some of the top trending bathroom paint colors in 2023: neutrals, blues, greens, and taupes.

1. Light Blues

Blue has been a popular bathroom paint color for decades, and it’s easy to see why. A splash of this popular paint color can help turn your bathroom into a tranquil, restorative oasis!

It can be challenging to find the right shade of blue that isn’t too dramatic, but there are stunning muted options ranging from gray to indigo that may just be the perfect compromise. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but according to a 2021 paint analysis study by Zillow and Behr Paint, having a light-blue palette can significantly increase a home's value.

Paint Recommendations: Aquaverde SW 9051, Valspar Blissful Blue 4005-3C, Coast Of Maine PPG10-20

2. Light Greens

A soft gray neutral color with hints of green undertones makes for a stunning bathroom color option. Light green hues are calming and bring a cooling effect to bright and sunny rooms. They also work well with other earthy tones like taupe and brown.

If you don't want to commit to painting your entire wall, you can use the color for trim in an all-white bathroom to add a sophisticated pop of color and warmth. Make your decor more earthy by adding touches of olive green, or add some lively lime to give your space a unique, inviting feel!

Paint Recommendations: Gray Cashmere 2138-60, Rainwashed SW 6211, Sea Salt SW 6204

3. Taupe

Taupe is the go-to bathroom wall color for many due to its flexibility. It pairs perfectly with most modern bathroom decor. This classic neutral is a perfect combo of brown and gray, working seamlessly together to create a cozy, intimate setting.

Paint recommendations: Dove Wing OC-18, Edgecomb Gray HC-173, Agreeable Gray SW 7029

See how quickly your bathroom comes to life with a fresh coat of paint!

Reminder: Our professional painters recommend moisture-resistant satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss finishes. Avoid matte or flat sheens, which are more prone to mold and mildew in damp bathrooms.

If you’re ready to give more of your home a much-needed makeover, look no further – our blog post “How to Choose the Right Color Palette” is full of tips to help you create the perfect color scheme for any room!

Accents That Pop

Now that you have a color scheme in mind, it’s time to add some flourishes! Accent your bathroom’s neutral walls with bold and graphic details, unexpected textures, geometric shapes, and/or eye-catching accessories on open shelves. This can be achieved with your accessories, like towels, toothbrush holders, facial tissue covers, etc.

If you prefer less clutter, you can still maximize your palette by installing a colorful sink (and/or toilet) or updating your faucets and fixtures with gold, brushed nickel, or oil-rubbed bronze finishes as an alternative to chrome.

Natural Materials

When it comes to creating a warm, welcoming space, organic materials are in high demand. Consider adding features like wood vanities, rattan accent furniture (if you’re lucky enough to have the space!), and brushed or honed stone counters to elevate your bathroom.

“After a series of serene and calm environments that we gravitated to due to the pandemic, we are now looking for fun and bold patterns to add texture and color to our space,” says Jake T. Galang, Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD) behind ILUSTRACION BY JAKE, CORP.

There’s no better way to fill your space with calm energy than to embrace the beauty of nature. Take a look at our blog, Bring The Outdoors Inside, for more ways to go au natural.
