Kitchen Remodel Must-Haves

2025 is all about your kitchen – it is, after all, the heart of the home. From design aesthetics to cabinets and materials to appliances, every aspect of your kitchen should exude your personality while also providing the essential functionality for you and your entire family.

This year is the perfect year to invest in the home you have by opting for a full kitchen home remodel. Luckily, we do just that. Whether you are just looking or you’re ready to dive right into a home renovation, these are our kitchen remodel must-haves!

Open-concept Kitchens

The shift to open-concept kitchens drastically came into fruition in the late 90’s and at this point, has become the norm. There are many benefits to an open-concept kitchen. One of the first is that it opens up your home in a profound way allowing for better traffic flow, functionality, and offers opportunities for further engagement with your family and friends. Open-concept kitchens also allow for the perfect entertainer’s kitchen. They also add value to your property, make less look like more, and bring in much needed light throughout the multi-use space. Suffice it to say, open-concept kitchens aren’t going anywhere. Last year we gathered a list of our 2024 best Maverick Kitchen remodels, all of which have open-concept kitchens. Take a look!

Dedicated Entertainment Stations

Coffee bar? Check. Cocktail bar? Check, check! While both features are often combined into one, we are seeing folks opt-in to having a dedicated space for both – a sort of separate bar station and coffee station. But they don’t stop there. Extra seating for both is essential. Whether you add in a cute breakfast nook near the coffee station or allow space for a high-top table near your kitchen bar, extra seating allows for optimal entertainment. Now, cheers to that!

Intentional Design

Whew! A lot goes into design. And while we are a home remodeling company based in Ken Caryl, Colorado, we know a thing or two about design. Adam Berlin, our President, often designs for many Maverick clients. 2025 is bringing out all the stops when it comes to design - but it’s all intentional. What do we mean by intentional design? Every choice and every design element has a purpose. This year you’ll see…

Color

The use of intentional and bold color choices that truly speak to the homeowner. Whether color is used within cabinetry, on the walls, or within the tile you chose to use, color will have a big impact this year. Choose what you love and what truly speaks to you. You love burnt yellow? Use it. But don’t be afraid to use muted colors as those are also quite popular. A lot can be said with both a vibrant color, and a muted one.

Open shelving

Open shelving within your kitchen isn’t only about decor – although, that’s also a great benefit. Open shelving is also about function. Open shelving allows for easy access to everyday items such as cups and plates, cook books, Chemex Coffeemaker, and much more. It’s also a great way to bring in some necessary greenery into your space. Open shelving also provides eye-catching linear design within your space as well. Sort of like when you walk into the kitchen and want to make sure your guests look right to your gorgeous oversized hood and fabulous gas range. What do you do? You install open shelving that will draw their eye right to your prized possession.

Wood Tones

Over the last few years wood tones have gained massive popularity. This year will be no different. Natural wood tones that tree species like oak, walnut and maple bring not only provide warmth but also provide natural textures to a space. At Maverick, we really love to bring the outdoors inside by leveraging the natural elements throughout Colorado within our home renovations. Here’s a pro tip – mix natural wood tones with color as well as other textured materials like stone.

Oversized Hoods

Gone are the days where a microwave oven sits above your cooktop. Another must-have on our list is a gorgeous oversized hood. There are many out there to choose from, but we do love the opportunity to put our effort into designing and creating a unique, custom built hood. Nonetheless, oversized hoods are here to stay!

Other intentional must-have designs include unique lighting features, different textures used throughout the space, art-inspired materials being used in areas like the backsplash or flooring, and artistically stylized walls. It’s all about expression - your personalized canvas.

Bigger Pantries That Make a Statement

Pantries are essential in any kitchen. Having a dedicated space to keep your canned goods, bread flour, and bulky kitchen accessories is a desire for any homeowner and a feature in the kitchen that has been around for quite some time. But, what was once a kitchen function, has now become a styled function. What does that mean? It means people are making their pantries oversized, functional, organized and stylish! Intentional design carries over from the kitchen and into the walk-in pantry. It’s like the primary bedroom closet for the kitchen. These bigger pantries have been increasing in popularity and definitely made our must-have list.

Oversized Multipurpose Kitchen Islands

One thing that COVID taught us was the need for fabulous multipurpose kitchen islands. Not only does a large kitchen island give you plenty of food prep space, it also allows for the best entertainment and a place for the kids to do their homework. There really are no negatives to oversized kitchen islands. That said, make it functional. Ensure you install optimal outlets for laptops, phone charging and items like your KitchenAid mixer. Need a place for your trashcan? Put it in the island. Need more storage space? Put it in the island. You get the picture!

Smart Appliances

We all know that appliances are a must-have for your kitchen – refrigerator, cooktop, oven, dishwasher, microwave – they are all essential when preparing food. But don’t be basic about it. Our must-haves in 2025 include investing in smart appliances across the board. We recommend upgrading to:

  • Smart Touchscreen Refrigerator

  • Smart Ovens & Ranges

  • Smart Dishwasher

  • Smart Microwave / Air Fryer Combo

  • Smart Hood

  • Smart Washer & Dryer (not in the kitchen but also quite worth it!)
