Home Renovations That Even Santa Would Approve Of

HO HO HO & Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! It’s that time of year again when Santa Claus reigns and we overload our bellies with sweet treats. Suffice to say, it’s our favorite time of year. And, if you grew up like most children throughout the world, then you’re familiar with Santa’s naughty and nice list. Depending on your behavior, you either land on the naughty side or nice side of the list. This year we want to make sure, when it comes to your home renovations, that you land on Santa’s nice list! You wouldn’t want a stocking full of coal for Christmas. So, what are some home renovations that Santa would approve of? Well, let’s dive into some HO HO HOME IMPROVEMENT, shall we?

We’re going to break down Santa’s favorite home renovations by focusing on the main areas that affect that jolly guy in the red suit… The fireplace, living / great room, kitchen and bathroom. Let’s start with Santa’s entry into your home.

The Fireplace

Santa can magically transform any fireplace into a portal into your living room for his annual gift giving task. Why not make it easier for him with a stately fireplace that you can enjoy all year round?

When you walk into a living room or great room, the fireplace is the first thing you and your guests notice. It’s also Santa’s first introduction into your home. As such, you want to ensure you make a bold statement. Something like, “Welcome to our home, Santa!” How do you do that? Whether you have a tile, stone, wood designed or brick facade, having a profound wood mantle where garland, lights, snow globes, candles and stocking holders can sit, is the key. Santa loves filling stockings that are hung with care on a gorgeous fireplace mantle. But that’s not all.

One design element we recommend is a floor to ceiling fireplace. Now that’s a statement! And, it allows for a TV or a piece of art to hang above the mantle. Any opportunity to show off your artistic tastes to Santa is a win for you.

Other elements to consider include storage slots for wood, shelving on opposite sides of the fireplace to hold memories and favorite books, and a hearth to dress up with holiday decorations. Whatever the case, Santa will be happy that you took the time to invest in your fireplace.

And of course, we can’t leave the fireplace without addressing your ROI (return on investment). Fortunately, we wrote an entire blog on ‘4 Fabulous Perks to Remodeling Your Fireplace,’ that you should absolutely read. Santa did, and he approved!

The Living / Great Room

Another very important home renovation that Santa would approve of is your living / great room.  Here is where a Christmas tree stands. And why is this room so important to him? Because Santa needs to carefully navigate your living area in order to place your gifts under your tree. And you don’t want Santa to get annoyed and not leave your gifts. You spent the year being nice, you deserve it!

So, what can you do? First, we always recommend an open-concept living / great room. When doing this, you typically combine rooms like your kitchen, living and dining area creating a large functional space that is often separated by the use of furniture. This is the perfect scenario for Santa as it allows him to see the space in low light easily navigating around your furniture to your Christmas tree.

Speaking of low light, Santa loves the opportunity to adjust the lighting, should he need to. Make sure to place recessed can lighting throughout your space with dimmer switches. That way, when Santa enters the room, he can control how bright he wants the space for his work.

Lastly, Santa likes windows. While he travels at night, he does think about your Christmas morning. He puts in a good word with Jack Frost to provide the ideal scenery. And no better way to see a white Christmas is through big picture windows! So, when remodeling your home, be sure to add in ample natural light for a perfect Christmas morning.

The Kitchen

Last month we wrote about ‘The Perfect Entertainer’s Kitchen’. And if you haven’t read it, we recommend as it is a fantastic guide to creating a kitchen made for entertaining. But for Christmas Eve, what better place to set a treat for Santa and his reindeer?

Picture it’s 4am. Santa is nearing the end of his night and stops in your home. You have the perfect fireplace and a gorgeous open-concept living room that leads Santa right to your large kitchen island where his milk and cookies sit along with carrots for the reindeer. You’ve just made Santa’s night even more merry and bright!

The kitchen that Santa will approve of is a kitchen that’s made for entertaining. A kitchen so full of love and happiness that even Santa will want to take a seat and relax in. What does that kitchen consist of? Lucky for you, we’ve already blogged about it several times. Check out our past blogs on what we recommend you remodel in your kitchen.

Our recommendation? Don’t skip out on your kitchen renovation. The ROI (return on investment) alone is worth an upgrade. Plus, Santa might want to leave you a little something extra for taking such good care of him and his reindeer!

The Bathroom

We’ve now come to the last room on Santa’s approval list - your bathroom. Yes, even Santa needs a little relief after jetting around the world delivering gifts. And like you, he never knows when the moment will hit. So make your bathroom enticing and comfortable that even Santa will leave feeling relieved!

What goes into the perfect bathroom? Last year we created a blog on how to ‘Prepare for Holiday House Guests with a Well-Stocked Bathroom.’ It’s certainly worth a read, but we’ll give you a quick recap as it’ll be the same things you’ll want to do for Santa, and he will approve it!

  • Increase space by expanding your bathroom

  • Increase storage by adding in tall cabinets and organizers

  • Update essentials like your toilet, sink and vanity

  • Add a fresh coat of paint or stylish wallpaper

  • Add in gorgeous lighting

  • Stock enough toilet paper and tissue paper

  • Add in a plunger, toilet brush and poo-pourri

  • Ensure you have enough hand soap and lotion

  • Decorate for the holidays - Santa loves pictures of himself!

But that’s not all you can do when remodeling your bathroom. Fortunately for you, we’ve compiled many blogs over the years that dive right into what makes the perfect bathroom. Take a look below:
